Welcome to Hft
Dear Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in joining Hft at this pivotal moment in our journey.
This is an exciting, stretching and immensely rewarding opportunity to join our Executive Team as we move into the next phase of our development — building a sustainable, resilient and future-ready organisation.
Hft is a national charity with a proud history of supporting learning disabled adults to live their best lives. In recent years, however, we have navigated significant challenges. Like many organisations in our sector, we were impacted by Covid, Brexit and widespread workforce instability. By 2022, our financial position had become unsustainable, requiring urgent and decisive action.
Since then, we have delivered a significant turnaround. Through resolute leadership, difficult decisions and a whole-organisation effort, we have reduced a £16 million deficit by over £12 million, significantly reduced our reliance on agency staffing, and begun to rebuild service quality.
This progress has created the foundations for our next phase — one that is firmly focused on transformation.
We are now embedding long-term financial sustainability, strengthening our systems and infrastructure, and continuing to improve the quality and consistency of our services. At the same time, we are re-energising our culture and ensuring that everything we do remains grounded in our values.
To support this next chapter, we have reshaped our Executive Team to reflect the capabilities needed for the future.
This role sits at the heart of that shift.
Traditionally, this might be seen as a Chief Finance Officer position. In reality, it is broader than that. It brings together financial stewardship, systems and digital enablement, and organisation-wide transformation. It is about ensuring that Hft not only remains financially strong, but is equipped to adapt, improve and thrive in an increasingly complex environment.
You will play a central role in shaping how the organisation operates and evolves — providing clarity, insight and leadership at a time when both stability and transformation are equally important.
You will be joining an organisation with a clear strategy, an honest and open culture, and a leadership community that values courage, collaboration and clarity of purpose.
As part of our recruitment process, we are proud to include the voices of people with learning disabilities. You will meet them throughout the process, and they will play a key role in the final stages of selection. Their perspective shapes how we lead, listen and make decisions at Hft.
We are looking for a leader who can bring both challenge and support — someone with the confidence to operate in complexity, the judgement to provide stability, and the ambition to help shape the future of Hft and the lives of the people we support.
This is a role where you can make a genuine difference and leave a meaningful legacy.
If that sounds like you, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Warm regards,
Steve Veevers - Chief Executive
